Transom Dagger Boards
I made my transom dagger boards last week. Seeing they are not a compulsory part of the build & they are open to builders interpretation, I decided to make them out of materials I had at hand. That being two layers of 15mm Divinycell foam with 2 laminations of 450 gsm double bias fibreglass cloth & epoxy resin. This has made for very light & very stiff dagger boards. I'm yet to make the cases but will make them as light weight as I can as well.
Shaping a foil to the foam blanks. I made a jig to support the foam when shaping the second side of the boards
--------------------------------------------
Resin coated the finish shaped boards then wet out 2 layers of 450 gsm double bias on a sheet of plastic
Lay the board onto the wetted out fibreglass & wrap around the board
Previously prepared peel ply, bleed cloth, & perforated plastic for wrapping laminated board. Remove wetting out plastic & lay board onto peel ply, etc
------------------------------------------------
Wrap the board in the peel ply, etc then put some shade cloth over the top. The shade cloth helps the vacuum to be pulled through the entire job
----------------------------------------------
Put everything into the vacuum bag, fit the hose & seal up the bag
Open the valve on the vacuum pump. Vacuum bagging makes it very easy when it comes to fibreglassing odd shapes like the rudder & dagger boards
What foil shape did you use?
