Rudder & Skeg

I've continued working on my rudder when I get time. Also built a timber plug for glassing up my skeg. After glueing up the blank for my rudder I have shaped the foil into it & applied 4 coats of Everdure timber preservative. Everdure is a thinned epoxy coating. I like to thin it again to about 30 % thinners and it really soaks into the plywood. Today I recessed the area specified in the plans for strengthening the rudder to about 1mm deep & put two layers of 450gsm double bias fibreglass & peel ply to either side of the rudder.

I have also recently made a plug for laminating my skeg. Once again applied Everdure & then Interprotect High Build Epoxy Primer. I still need to sand it & apply a topcoat before waxing the plug & laying up the fibreglass.

Next job to attack is completing the glassing of both rudder & skeg, then I might start making the dagger boards & cases. Hope to start making frames in the next month.
